Tarrant County High

tchigh-002tchigh-003_edited

Unless it’s a real estate, home-buying ploy, we’ve been told the area near where we reside is the highest point in Tarrant County. I’m not too sure, but after a couple of nose-bleeds and the purchase of an oxygen tank, I’d have to agree, that it could be. The area as we affectionately call  LeBluffs, is a nice hilly subdivision. Our “Broker” friends have a beautiful view from their home of downtown FW. You’ll see the trail in the pic above leading to a viewing area where on a more clear day, you could see all of FW’s 5 or 6 ‘skyscrapers.’ In the pic on the right, you could barely make a visual of downtown FW upper right corner.

*** tomorrow, I will participate in the FW Cowtown race. I’m  looking forward to the 10k, which I’m slightly embarrassed to say being a former half-marathoner.The FW course and all its hills –  not for the recreational runner. I’m glad Tarrant County High is not included in the run. I shall post race pics tomorrow. It’ll  give me an excuse to during my run/walk/run/walk to take blog photos ***

Arts Fifth Avenue

evening shot of studio

evening shot of studio

Earlier this evening, I had a chance to check out few of the many classes offered at Arts Fifth Avenue near downtown FW. More specifically, I took a djembe class. It was a pleasure learning from well-known percussionist Eddie Dunlap. Tonight made me realize that sometimes you just have to go out and seek things. I’m glad my wife found the website through some local mag, and investigated this cool local arts center. Classes offered included tap dance, hip-hop, jazz, etc. The Mondo Drummers signage you see next to the center name is Dunlap’s percussion troupe.

Vigilance

the aritst's first work

the artist's first public work

outside Fire Station No.8

FW Fire Station No.8

While driving near south of downtown FW, I noticed this awesome artwork outside FW Fire Station No. 8. Standing in awe at the station I saw the word “Vigilance” written in one of the tower windows above the station ID.  This is Eric McGehearty’s first public art project. His artpiece truly captures, in my interpretation, the willingness and readiness to serve. One has to drive by and see this. Quite powerful.

Choc-roid*

If A-rod* was a chocolate truffle

If A-rod* was a chocolate truffle

I know I had promised to stray from mindless jibber jabber, but in light of valentines day and the recent A-rod bombshell, I couldn’t resist this picture. I took my other 1/3 to a Central Market cooking class in Southlake (few minutes from FW) as an early valentines day gift. Tonight’s class: hands-on making chocolate truffle. With my manhood still intact, I couldn’t help but take the chef’s “Do whatever you want with the soft chocolate truffle…” literally.  I thought ‘outside the box.’ I couldn’t help but think of the steroid scandal and A-roid’s* recent confession. So, I proceeded to make a truffle of a chocolate figurine on roids. He’s sitting next ot his dog – I hadn’t put the eyes on it yet at this point. I texted the picture to a buddy of mine, and he replied, “Dude, wtf is that?” Hence, this evening’s entry. Thanks, Ra! *

Going (blue)-green!

Fort Worth Recylces

Fort Worth Recycles!

(to the tune of our high school spirit chant): ” We recycle, yes we do…we recycle, how about you?” Yes, Fort Worth recycles. It’s been said every little bit counts, so this is one of our minor duties we try to fulfill! My friend RW sent me a picture few weeks ago of recycle specific bins located in the Dallas-Lovefield airport. I lost that pic, sorry RW.  When we moved here a year ago, I have to admit that Fort Worth’s “green” movement is quite impressive.

Harvesting in Fort Worth?

mobilizing in FW ?

IH (International Harvester) MRAP

*** do you get the feeling I take a lot of these pics while driving? not good! but the spontaneity of it all***

I took this picture earlier while driving to work on Hwy 35W South near downtown Fort Worth. (pic taken from my Sprint Treo 750(?) I’m not too sure exactly what vehicle this is, but I hope it doesn’t morph into a Hummer 6 later on. Well, if it ran on an energy-friendly fuel at a good price, I’d consider purchasing one. There is a joint reserve base in fort worth: NAS JRB Fort Worth. The space shuttle actually made a recent stop there. My neighbor is in the United State Marine Corps. He and his wife are a wonderful couple, and it is great hearing stories of his service  I was rather excited seeing this today, especially since the trailer for GI Joe came out recently. I’ve just dated myself, I know…I grew up with GI Joe, Transformers, GoBots, etc….

Keller Desis

irony

irony

As you can deduce, I am of Indian-American descent. As the bumper stickers around here are stated, “ I wasn’t born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could!

Where I live is technically in Fort Worth; however, we are ‘serviced’ by the Keller post office. The  wonderful town of Keller is across the tracks. My other half (or if we did it by size proportions-my other 1/3) always says that Keller isn’t really much of a diverse town, but every time we drive by this water tower, we share a moment of laughter. I always tell her, “See honey, Keller is the home of the Indians!”  Keller recently made the news when its school district announced it would not show the presidential inauguration in local schools. I believe the rationale was because it didn’t fit the curriculum and would take away from ample teacher time. However, after much deliberation, the school district overturned its original decision. I’m sure it was to prevent a visit from Christiane Amanpour, Anderson Cooper, or possibly some sort of commendation from area Dittoheads.  Political idiosyncracies aside, the citizens of Keller are wonderful, and the town has a unique charm. Bear Creek Park is a great family venue, the antique stores are a hidden gem, and the barbecue is to die for. Yet, we have more to explore of this little town with local history, and a promising future with its continued growth !
